• paying greater attention to surgical hemostasis
  • electrical cauterizing bleeding vessels
  • use of topical thrombin to seal oozing or bleeding areas
    • fibrinogen concentrate
• hemodilution which limits the volume of red cells that are lost
• intraoperative blood salvage
