  • The Circular of Information for the Use of Human Blood and Blood Components, supplied by Canadian Blood Services, describes the use of human blood and blood components. It is considered an extension of blood and component container labels and so conforms to all applicable regulations issued by the Health Products and Food Branch of Health Canada.
  • An excellent article on Risks Associated with Transfusion of Cellular Blood Components in Canada is available in a study by Steven Kleinman, Penny Chan, and Pierre Robillard in Transfusion Medicine Reviews 2003 Apr;17(2):120-162.

  • Bloody Easy E-learning Tool is a free e-learning program designed to enhance the ability of physicians, nurses and technologists to use blood transfusion and its alternatives knowledgeably. The program is based on the handbook, Blood Easy: A Guide to Transfusion Medicine, a quality resource on blood transfusion, blood alternatives and transfusion reactions, by Dr. Jeannie Callum and Dr. Peter Pinkerton, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

  • Health Canada's Special Access Program (SAP): Some blood products are only available through this program. Refer to the Special Access Program section in the Blood Transfusion Resource Manual.

  • Patient information brochures on blood transfusion are available through the LHSC Forms Management.
