Coordinator - Mr. M. Graves B.Sc.
Completed and opened in May 2000, the newly renovated and merged autopsy suite at LHSC-UH sees more than 600 post-mortem examinations per year. These include patients who have died at LHSC. The facility also acts as a tertiary referral and forensic pathology centre for the Southwestern Ontario region.
In addition to its clinical role, the facility doubles as an important undergraduate and postgraduate teaching facility and research resource supporting many internal and collaborative medical and scientific research projects.
The Forensic Pathology division serves a vital role for LHSC and the Southwestern Ontario region. In collaboration with the Ontario Coroner's system as well as the Ontario Provincial Police and Police Forces from London and other municipalities, the Forensic Pathology service at LHSC oversees postmortem investigations of approximately 400 cases per year. Through their involvement in coroner's autopsies, Pathology faculty play a central role in determination of cause of death, diagnosis, implementation of safety measures, public education and expert testimony in the courts of law.
