Completed and opened in 2003 the renovated LHSC and St. Joseph’s Cytology Labs report over 28000 samples yearly.  Major specimen types include Pap tests, fluids (urines, ascites), exfoliatives (bronchial washings & brushings) and fine needle aspiration biopsies.  The division provides critical expertise in diagnosis for LHSC, St. Joseph’s Hospital and regional hospitals.

In addition to the service role the lab participates in undergraduate and post graduate teaching for the University of Western Ontario and cytotechnologist student evaluation for the Michener Institute.  As well, research projects both internal and collaborative are supported.
