Also referred to as the Blood Bank. This laboratory determines blood groups and the presence of antibodies that might affect transfused blood cells. Blood is split into components and prepared for transfusion to patients during surgery, during emergencies or as routine therapy. The techniques used are mostly manual and involve a good deal of trouble shooting.
