The Pulmonary Retransplant Registry|
Who can be a donor?
Most lung grafts come from cadaver donors - patients who have been declared brain-dead in a hospital while attached to a ventilator. Consent is given by the next of kin for organ removal and transplantation. Occasionally, a lobe of the lung may be taken from one or two living donors (a relative such as a parent), although this procedure is still considered experimental.
