LHSC University Hospital restores outpatient procedures
Some surgeries to resume tomorrow
(LONDON, Ontario) - London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL today restored outpatient procedures after new medical instruments were obtained.
The hospital will also resume some surgeries tomorrow. Physician offices will contact patients directly.
LHSC UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL procured a supply of instruments after learning a suspected case of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) could have potentially contaminated instruments used between November 30 and December 4, 2006. All instruments used during this time frame remain isolated.
Preliminary LHSC laboratory tests processed yesterday produced a negative result, meaning that CJD is no longer suspected. These results must now be confirmed by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
LHSC Infection Prevention & Control and Health Canada continue to work together to determine what, if any, risks there may be to patients.
The LHSC UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL Emergency Department remains open and fully operational.
A patient information call centre has been established to address patient and family concerns at 1-866-313-5528. Calls will be answered by hospital staff between 7:30 am and 9:00 pm.
