South Street Emergency Department Transfer Complete

London, Ontario - At 7 am the South Street Emergency Department closed its doors and the new adult Emergency Department at Victoria Hospital opened.

Five patients were in the South Street Emergency Department at 7 am this morning. They were transferred to the new Emergency Department by ambulance and patient transfer vehicle. The transfers began at 7:04 and were completed at 7:44.

"I am pleased to report that the relocation of the South Street Emergency Department to the new Victoria Hospital was completed without incident and ahead of schedule," said Tony Dagnone, President and CEO of London Health Sciences Centre.

"Our new adult emergency facility is fully operational. At this time we have nine patients in our adult Emergency," said Gary Joubert, City-wide Chief of Emergency Medicine. "No patients have presented at South Street."

The next stage of the move is now in progress with the transfer one hundred and forty admitted patients. As of 10:30, 68 patients have transferred, including all medicine and respirology patients. The moves are a half hour ahead of schedule and proceeding without incident.

As of today, London has two Emergency Departments.
