Doctor at London Health Sciences Centre Wins Regional Family Physician of the Year Award

(LONDON, Ontario) - The Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) has awarded Dr. John Jordan, Acting Chief of Family Medicine at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Western Ontario, the Family Physician of the Year Award for Southwestern Ontario.

Jordan is one of six family physicians to be recognized in the province. One of these recipients will be selected to represent Ontario as one of ten Canadian Family Physicians of the Year in November.

According to the OCFP, the physicians that have been chosen for this award best represent the work by family doctors in their own region, including exceptional care of their patients, significant contributions to the health and well being of their communities and/or society in general.

Since 1983, Jordan has had a Family Practice at LHSC's Byron Family Medical Centre in London. Jordan is Chair of the Resident Recruitment Committee in the Department of Family Medicine at Western. He is also Co-Chair of the Continuing Medical Education Advisory Committee for the Faculty of Medicine at Western. In addition, Jordan is the Medical Director of the Middlesex Terrace Nursing Home. Jordan includes obstetrics in his practice and over the years has been actively involved in the development and implementation of a model for the delivery of Maternal/Infant Care Services for the city of London.

Dr. Murray Girotti, LHSC's Vice-President, Medical Affairs, says, "Dr. Jordan exemplifies the attributes of a Family Physician and is valued by the patients he cares for. The award positively reflects LHSC's commitment to Family Medicine in this community."
