(LONDON, Ontario) – The week of May 10-16 marks National Nursing Week, an opportunity to celebrate Canadian nurses for their provision of outstanding patient-centered care and dedication to advancing the health system. This year’s theme – Nursing: You Can’t Live Without It! – reflects the immense value of Canada’s largest group of health-care providers. This year is also the International Year of the Nurse.
Nurses at St. Joseph’s Health Care, London and London Health Sciences Centre are celebrating nursing week by planning numerous events and activities at each of our locations. The week’s highlight is the annual gala and over 600 nurses will gather together to celebrate nursing practice in London.
Media are invited to attend the Nursing Week Gala. This year’s event was a city wide initiative, planned by staff from St. Joseph’s, London Health Sciences Centre, Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing, Fanshawe College School of Nursing and the Middlesex-London Health Unit.
- Guest Rosita Hall will speak about strategies to de-stress and using humour to get through difficult days
- Recognition of various Nursing Excellence Award recipients
- A historical display by Museum London of nursing uniforms going back as far as 1833
- A vignette style presentation by nurses called “Proud to be a Nurse” that showcases the various roles and perspectives of nursing across the continuum of care.
