Children’s Hospital to Recruit New Paediatric Cardiologists

(LONDON, Ontario) – London Health Sciences Centre’s Children’s Hospital is announcing that its two paediatric cardiologists, Dr. Dion Pepelassis and Dr. Ilan Buffo have resigned and accepted positions in another province effective summer 2008.

“LHSC is actively engaged in an expedited recruitment process of paediatric cardiologists and has already interviewed several candidates,” says Dr. Guido Filler, Chair/Chief Paediatrics, Children’s Hospital. “As the paediatric cardiologists will remain in London until summer 2008, we are confident that the health care needs of current and future patients will continue uninterrupted.”

In addition, LHSC is in ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to address the current situation and to ensure that the health care needs of patients requiring paediatric cardiology services are met.

Ken Deane, Chief Operating Officer, London Health Sciences Centre states, “Children’s Hospital is proud of the level of skill and expertise provided to all of our patients, across the communities we serve and throughout the many different clinical areas and services we provide, including cardiology. It is our full intention to ensure continued excellence in cardiac care for our children.”

Adds Dr. Filler, “We would like to thank Dr. Pepelassis and Dr. Buffo for their contributions during their time at Children’s Hospital and wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
