President's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Community Service
Cliff Nordal, President and Chief Executive Officer, is pleased to announce Janalyn E. DeRose as the recipient of the London Health Sciences Centre’s 2008 President’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Community Service. DeRose is a physiotherapist at LHSC’s Victoria Hospital and has been with the hospital for almost 25 years. Today, in the President’s Gallery, Nordal affixed DeRose’s name on the perpetual plaque honouring recipients of the award.
“Through her volunteer efforts with the London Ski Club and the May Court Club of London, Jan has demonstrated dedication, enthusiasm and leadership and has truly made a difference to the lives of people in our community,” said Nordal. “As always I am amazed by the amount of volunteerism that happens at all levels of our organization - LHSC is a hospital of caring people who keep on giving even when their shift is over.”
The annual award recognizes an individual at LHSC whose volunteer achievements have exemplified initiative, innovation, impact, commitment, inspiration, leadership and other special qualities. The selection committee recognized DeRose for her volunteer work with the London Ski Club and the May Court Club of London.
“The President’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Community Service is a wonderful example of an organization that is taking the time to recognize volunteers who are having a positive impact in our broader community,” said Michelle Baldwin, Executive Director, Pillar Nonprofit Network and member of the President’s Award Selection Committee. “It is an opportunity to highlight an individual who can be an inspiration to other employees at LHSC and the community as a whole. Volunteers are the roots of our community so it is essential we nurture them.”
“It is an honour to receive the award,” said DeRose. “I am only one of the many employees here at LHSC committed to volunteering in our community.”
