(LONDON, Ontario) – London Health Sciences Centre held open forums for staff regarding the Public Sector Compensation Restraint to Protect Public Services Act.
This legislation essentially freezes the wages of non-union staff across most of the Ontario public sector, including hospitals for two years. Forums were held to address staff questions as the hospital moves forward with implementing this new law.
LHSC has numerous non-union employee groups with union counterparts, including: nurses, technical staff, office & clerical staff, and service workers.
“Our long-standing practice has been to match the non-union wages to their union counterparts”, says Steve Coulahan, chief human resources officer, LHSC, “This legislation prohibits our ability to do this.”
In addition to working with the Ontario Hospital Association, which acts on behalf of all Ontario hospitals to forward concerns to the provincial government regarding the implementation of this new law, Cliff Nordal, President and Chief Executive Office, LHSC will also send a letter to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the southwest LHIN and the OHA summarizing the themes that emerged from the open forums.
