For Immediate Release:
February 19, 2009

(LONDON, Ontario) – LHSC is pleased to announce that it is the first Ontario hospital to publicly make available detailed and daily information regarding Emergency Department wait times.

ED wait times data for the University Hospital, Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital Emergency Departments will be reported and posted daily on LHSC’s Accountability website at: http://www.lhsc.on.ca/About_Us/Accountability/Caring_for_our_Patients/Wait_Times/ED and will include:

  • Average length of time for patients who are treated and discharged (in hours)
  • Average length of time for patients who require admission to the hospital for further care (in hours)
  • Number of patients seen in the emergency departments

“The provision of daily ED wait time information to the public, and information on what LHSC is doing to address wait times, further demonstrates LHSC’s commitment to accountability and transparency and our commitment to patient safety and care,” says Cliff Nordal, President and Chief Executive Officer.

LHSC has also been providing monthly ED wait time data to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) as part of the expansion of the Ministry’s Wait Times Information Strategy.
