LHSC’s 2008 Employee Giving Campaign
Reveals Fundraising Total

For Immediate Release:
January 29, 2009

(LONDON, Ontario) – On Thursday, January 29, 2009 London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) staff announced that they raised a combined total of $182,329.35 for United Way of London & Middlesex, London Health Sciences Foundation and Children’s Health Foundation.

"This year’s employee giving campaign was the first time we combined three campaigns into one,” said Cliff Nordal, President and Chief Executive Officer, London Health Sciences Centre. “The goal of the campaign was to raise the culture of philanthropy amongst the staff and to make it easier for staff to contribute to their charity of choice using a single pledge form.”

The dollars raised will be divided amongst the three charities according to the pledges. They are as follows:

Children’s Health Foundation
London Health Sciences Foundation
United Way of London & Middlesex

Each year LHSC sponsors an employee to participate in the United Way of London & Middlesex campaign. From September to December this individual works with other sponsored employees across the city, helping other organizations to run their own campaigns.

"This experience was a great way for me to give back to the community,” said Kim Paton, this year’s LHSC sponsored employee and a clinical leader in radiation therapy at LHSC’s London Regional Cancer Program. This was the first year that LHSC’s sponsored employee was able to represent not only United Way, but also London Health Sciences Foundation and Children’s Foundation thanks to the new fundraising model.

Added Nordal, “Our organization has a rich tradition of care and community outreach; for needs within our own programs, as well as needs within our broader community.”
