For Immediate Release:
January 7, 2021
Over the next 24 hours, five non-critical acute care patients will be transferred from Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) to London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). This follows WRH’s announcement earlier this week that they are transferring some patients to other southwestern Ontario hospitals in order to create bed capacity following high volumes of COVID-19 hospital admissions.
LHSC, along with partners from across the region and the province, continues to plan for the management of a surge in COVID-19 patients and the implementation of any needed escalating response actions will be determined by overall capacity pressures at the local, regional, and provincial health-system levels.
LHSC remains committed to transparency in reporting our current number of COVID-19 inpatients. The number of COVID-19 inpatients reported on our website will be updated to include any COVID-19 patients transferred from WRH.
LHSC values our partnerships with hospitals across Ontario. We are committed to working collaboratively to provide excellent patient care while balancing capacity in our health care system.
