(LONDON, Ontario) – London Health Sciences Centre’s London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) launched their online virtual orientation website today. Located at, the site provides first-time patients the opportunity to take a guided tour of the cancer program’s facilities, and meet some of the staff who may be providing their care, without having to leave the comfort of their own homes.

A diagnosis of cancer can cause a great deal of anxiety for patients and their families. More than 6,000 patients are referred to LRCP each year for their treatment, which underscores the value of this important new resource.

"The goal of the virtual tour is to help familiarize patients with the services available at LRCP, explain the physical layout of the building itself and offer practical information about what to expect upon arrival for their first visit,” said Gale Turnbull, manager of Supportive Care and Education at LRCP, who also led the project.”

In order to provide an experience that is as realistic as possible, patients who visit the website will be treated to a tour through the facility that replicates a first-time visit from the patient’s point of view. The virtual tour is conducted by former LRCP patient Judy Lambers, and also includes conversations with current LRCP volunteers, staff and physicians.

"I was thrilled to do anything I could to help make things easier for people,” said Lambers. “I’ve gone through it, and prior to arriving at LRCP, you don’t know what to expect. So it’s great to help give people a view into what takes place at their first appointment.”

After a competitive tendering process, the virtual tour was developed in conjunction with local web firm Resolution Interactive Media (ResIM). LRCP and ResIM led multiple audience research sessions with LRCP patients to determine the most appropriate content for the site.

"We really looked to people who had actually gone through cancer treatments to tell us what was important to them and what they would like to see,” said ResIM partner Jonathan Kochis. “Involving them in developing the final product was a really great experience for everyone involved.”
