Two Historic Days of Endings and Beginnings at St. Joseph's Hospital
London, Ontario - The doors to the Emergency Department at St. Joseph's Hospital will close for the first time in 75 years at 3 pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 as the department officially relocates to London Health Sciences Centre. Emergency signs will also be covered at 3 pm. The closing marks the end of three-quarters of a century of emergency service delivery at St. Joseph's Hospital. "We estimate that in its history, this department has cared for over two and half million patients, " notes Cliff Nordal, President and CEO of St. Joseph's Health Care, London.
As of February 15, there will be three emergency departments in the City of London:
- University Campus Emergency Department, Windermere Road and Perth Drive
- South Street Campus Emergency Department, 255 South Street
- Children's Emergency Department at Victoria Campus, Commissioners & Wellington Roads
Wednesday, February 16, 2005, marks an historic beginning, as St. Joseph's Hospital officially opens London's first Urgent Care Centre with a ceremony and photo opportunity on the ramp at the corner of Grosvenor and Wellington streets.
The Urgent Care Centre is a new health service in London to treat non-life threatening illnesses and injuries, such as scrapes, cuts, sprains, broken bones, earaches, fevers, coughs and colds. The hours of operation for the Urgent Care Centre will be 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., seven days per week.
