7th Annual Race to Save Lives

(LONDON, Ontario) -- The Multi-Organ Transplant Program at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is gearing up for the 7th annual "Race to Save Lives," taking place at the Western Fair Raceway on Wednesday, May 24. This is an annual event to raise awareness about organ donation and the desperate need for donors, as well as to highlight the success of transplantation.

Currently, more than 4,000 Canadians are on the waiting list for an organ transplant, and thousands more are in need of tissue transplant. In London alone, more than 300 patients are currently waiting for an organ transplant at LHSC.

Local celebrities and members of the London Police and London Fire Departments will replace the horses and team up with six transplant recipients to pull the sulky and driver around the track.

This year’s proceeds will support the Islet Cell Transplant Program, which is currently in development at LHSC.
