London Health Sciences Centre accepts resignation of pediatrician in critical care

On June 6, 2002, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario (CHWO) received and accepted a resignation letter from Dr. Yves Ouellette, pediatrician in critical care medicine, effective late summer or early fall of this year.

Dr. Ouellette is moving to become part of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Specifically, Dr. Ouellette will be joining the critical care staff of the Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital. His appointment will be as a clinician scientists in pediatric critical care medicine within the Mayo programs.

Tony Dagnone, LHSC president and CEO says, "We regret the loss of Dr. Ouellette who is an exceptional pediatrician and pediatric critical care physician, as well as an extraordinary scientist. On behalf of LHSC and the Children's hospital, I would like to thank Dr. Ouellette for his dedication and the care he has provided for the children of Southwestern Ontario. We wish Dr. Ouellette and his family the very best in their future."

As Dr. Ouellette moves onto the Mayo Clinic we want to reassure the people of London and Southwestern Ontario that LHSC is committed to ensuring the success of the pediatric critical care program at the Children's Hospital. An aggressive recruitment process to replace Dr. Ouellette has already begun.

Dagnone says, "The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) Specialized Pediatric Services Review has endorsed the role of the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario, within LHSC, as a major provider of pediatric specialized care within Ontario."

Dagnone adds, "LHSC is committed to a vibrant and strong Children's Hospital of Western Ontario. That is reinforced by the fact that in three weeks we will be breaking ground for the new home of the Children's Hospital."
