About the Bleeding Disorders Program
The Bleeding Disorders Program (BDP), formerly the South Western Ontario Regional Hemophilia Program (SWORHP), is a comprehensive care program that provides regular preventative and therapeutic care for individuals and families with inherited bleeding disorders throughout the lifespan. It is a regional program within London Health Sciences Centre that has served the people of Southwestern Ontario since 1978. Our catchment area has a population base of 1.8 million.
Individuals who have or are suspected to have an inherited bleeding disorder are referred to the BDP by their family physician, gynecologist, dentist or other specialist. An interdisciplinary team consisting of an adult and pediatric hematologist, advanced practice nurse, program secretary, physiotherapist, social worker and specialized laboratory technician provides care. The BDP provides a range of services with an emphasis on early diagnosis and intervention to prevent disease complications. The BDP and Hemophilia Ontario – SWOR have a collaborative relationship and work together to provide programs and services that aim to improve the quality of life of individuals and their families living with a life-long, inherited bleeding disorder.
