At London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), supporting care journeys means helping patients and families access information more easily, navigate our hospitals with confidence, and feel safe from the moment they arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n

Making information more accessible for patients, families, and visitors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In October 2025, LHSC launched two new digital Patient Guides<\/a> to help patients, families, and visitors find the information they need before and during their hospital visit more quickly and easily. Created in response to feedback from the Community Advisory Committee Community Survey, the updated guides make information easier to locate, more accessible, and easier to keep current. Their launch also fulfills one of the committee\u2019s recommended actions to strengthen communication, operations, and the overall care experience at LHSC.<\/p>\n\n\n\t

The launch of these new patient guides is a great example of how we work in partnership with patients and families to improve communication. Developed in close collaboration with patient and family partners, the new guides improve compatibility with assistive technology, make information easier to find through search tools, and reduce the need for printed materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those who prefer or require paper copies, clinical teams also have access to printable PDFs by section or individual page, helping ensure patients and families can choose the format that works best for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creating safer care environments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all, LHSC introduced a new weapons detection system<\/a> at the entrances of our Emergency Departments at University Hospital, Victoria Hospital, and Children\u2019s Hospital. The advanced, non-intrusive system allows people to move through screening without stopping or removing personal items, using artificial intelligence and sensor technology to identify potential weapons while distinguishing them from everyday belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\t

Our intention is to create an environment where patients feel safe while receiving the care they need and our team members feel secure while delivering it. Since its installation, the weapons detection system has screened approximately 726,188 people entering LHSC\u2019s Emergency Departments and identified 7,492 prohibited items. Early results suggest the system is strengthening safety while supporting a smooth and efficient entry experience for patients, families, visitors, and team members. Its introduction builds on positive results seen elsewhere in Ontario\u2019s health-care sector and reflects LHSC\u2019s focus on improving safety while maintaining timely access to urgent care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navigating LHSC with greater confidence and ease<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

LHSC also introduced MazeMap, a new digital wayfinding tool designed to help patients and visitors navigate hospital sites more easily. Available through the LHSC website<\/a>, the MazeMap app, and wayfinding kiosks at each hospital site, the tool supports navigation at University, Victoria, and Children\u2019s hospitals, helping users find their destination with greater confidence and ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long described by staff and visitors as complex spaces to navigate, LHSC\u2019s hospital sites now have a digital tool that helps map routes to appointments and services on-site. By making it easier to get from one place to another, MazeMap supports a more positive hospital experience for patients and families from the moment they arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
