2016 President’s Award for Core Values – How We Work Together

Congratulations to Sal Treesh, recognized for demonstrating LHSC’s core values of respect, trust and collaboration in work with Renal Program

January 11, 2016

Sal Treesh, this year’s recipient of the President’s Award for Core Values – How We Work Together, is a Biomedical Engineering Technologist in the Renal Program, where he has worked since 2007.

Sal was nominated by colleagues both inside LHSC and at satellite clinics in Woodstock and Goderich for his dedication and leadership in the area of hemodialysis. Known as the ‘go to guy’ on the team, Sal’s nominators describe a colleague dedicated to ensuring that patients have safe and reliable access to dialysis when they need it, where they need it. This means making himself available to colleagues and patients at all times, including outside of work hours if required.

“My motivation comes from working in a field of medical technology that I am passionate about,” said Sal. “My work provides me with the opportunity to work with the best nephrologists, nurses and technologists to provide the best care for our patients.”

Known as an encyclopedia of knowledge, Sal is also recognized as a patient and supportive teacher to colleagues looking to expand their understanding of dialysis equipment functionality, repair and water safety. One of his colleagues in a satellite location writes “Sal is an expert in his field and very supportive no matter the question. He is always accessible and we are very lucky to have him on our team. He is passionate about his work and a pleasure to work with!”

Sal’s commitment and passion for his field extends outside of the regular duties of his role, into research and education, helping to find new and innovative ways to improve the patient experience for patients requiring dialysis. “I use my work to challenge myself, continue to learn and progress and motivate younger technologist to do the same. My work is also important to me as it allows me to be a role model for my young daughters,” said Sal.

In summarizing why Sal is the best candidate for this award, his colleagues say “Sal has become a natural leader within the team, not by appointment but by his knowledge, his dedication to the program and by his ability to communicate and collaborate with all branches of our multi-disciplinary program. He truly demonstrates the core values of respect, trust and collaboration on a daily basis.”

Shares Sal, “it is such a huge honour to be recognized by my peers, who I look up to. I feel sincerely proud to be included with such an amazing and exceptional group of professionals.”
