Lawson Makes the Top Ten for Hospital-Based Research in Canada

November 5, 2015

Lawson Health Research Institute is ranked eighth in the country according to the 2015 edition of “Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals List.”  Each year, hospital-based research institutes across Canada are ranked based on their research income for the year.

The ranking looks at funds received from all sources, both internal and external, to support research at the organization. According to the report Lawson received just over $113.3 million in research income in 2014. However, in terms of research dollars as a percent of hospital’s budget, Lawson ranked 5th.

Dr. David Hill, Lawson’s Scientific Director, is happy with this news.  “We are up there with some of the largest and most successful research hospitals in Canada.  This tells us that Lawson and our two partner hospitals are a major part of academic hospital research in Canada.”

Dr. Hill is looking forward to working with London’s newly elected MPs and is optimistic as he looks towards the first federal budget. “It has been proven time and time again that investing in health research and accelerating innovation is the single most important decision we can make as a country to increase the well-being of Canadians and build a robust economy.”
