The Multi-Organ Transplant Program at London Health Sciences Centre is home to talented staff and physicians whose research, clinical innovation and expertise have been saving lives and improving patient outcomes for more than 30 years. Their work would not be possible without the compassion of organ donors and their families.
To help increase donation rates and awareness, LHSC is pleased to partner with Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) to kick off a month-long workplace registration drive throughout April. TGLN was created to help save and enhance lives by increasing organ and tissue donation for transplantation in Ontario.
There’s a good chance you already support this cause – 80 per cent of Ontarians say that giving consent for organ and tissue donation in advance is very important to them, although fewer than 25 per cent have actually registered to be organ and tissue donors. Many people mistakenly believe they are registered because they previously signed a paper donor card. Please check to be sure you are registered.
Please also consider using this opportunity to discuss organ and tissue donation with your family and share our campaign page with them. When given evidence of a loved one’s decision to donate, families almost always honour this decision. If there is no evidence of the decision, consent falls to 50 per cent – demonstrating just how vital it is to share your decision with your family.
At LHSC, staff and physicians care for the residents of London and the region every day. By registering their consent to donate and encouraging loved ones to do the same, LHSC’s people are furthering their commitment to providing the best possible outcomes for patients.
