The Province of Ontario released the following statement regarding red and white Ontario health cards: “As of July 1, 2020, red and white health cards will no longer be accepted as proof of Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) coverage for insured health services.”
If you use a red and white health card, it’s time to replace it with the more secure photo health card. It’s free to switch to a photo health card and doing so will help protect Ontario’s health-care system against potential fraud.
Per the Province’s direction, residents who miss the deadline will not be denied health care. However, effective July 1, 2020 anyone with a red and white Ontario health card will need to pay up front for services at a doctor’s office or hospital.
