G-Tel provides damage prevention services to the utility world, helping Canada stay connected and functioning. But when G-Tel's CEO Ken Ritchie received a diagnosis of stomach cancer, it almost tore his whole world apart.

To save his life, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) thoracic surgeon Dr. Dalilah Fortin removed Ritchie's stomach on July 20, 2010.

Ritchie, currently on a six month check-up cycle, has been cancer-free ever since.

This past December, in the spirit of giving back, G-Tel hosted a toonie fundraiser at its staff Christmas party. Every $2 put forth by staff was matched by the company. The event raised $1,500, which was then donated to LHSC in support of surgical equipment for the new thoracic operating room.

"I want to help improve the quality of care and advance our technology for physicians," says Ritchie.
