Social Work

The Social Workers in Supportive Care provide counselling to patients and their families. Social Workers can help you deal with the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis. They can also help you:

  • Understand and cope with your own and others' feelings about your illness
  • Talk with your children, family members or friends about your illness
  • Adjust to the changes cancer has made in your life
  • Learn ways to manage the worry and stress of living with cancer
  • Find out about financial services that may be available to you
  • Talk with your health care team
  • Find support services in your community

Supportive Care also offers various group programs. Regular programs include a cancer support group for women, a coping skills program, and a program for parents and children. Social Workers are available to help you and your family before, during and after treatment.

To make an appointment with a social worker call 519-685-8622. No referral is necessary.

You can also ask a member of your health care team, to refer you to a social worker.
