London Health Sciences Centre has had city-wide CDAD rate monitoring programs, with quartely reports to staff and leadership, in place for several years.
All direct care staff are given infection control education on hire and all new and current direct care givers complete the new Ministry of Health and Long Term Care core teaching on infection control practices.
We have formed a Hand Hygiene Improvement Project Steering Committee to provide direction on development, implementation and evaluation of an effective and sustainable hand hygiene program in our hospitals. This will further support our ability to continually improve the care we deliver.
LHSC consistently reviews its infection prevention and control practices to ensure that they align with the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) best practices documents, as well as the Ministry’s “Just Clean Your Hands” program.
In addition, we continue to review our environmental cleaning practices to ensure that we are following the PIDAC best practices documents.
We also regularly consult with our local public health unit to identify any further actions that can improve patient safety.
