What do the statistics mean?

The MRSA rate reported refers to bloodstream infection rates. The rate is calculated as follows:

(Number of nosocomial patients with laboratory identification of MRSA bacteremia associated with the reporting facility) x 1000 ÷ Number of patient days

This rate represents the rate of hospital-acquired bacteremias per 1,000 patient days.

The number represents the number of new MRSA bacteremias associated with the hospital during the reported month.
