LHSC pilot program aims to provide mental health support to transition age youth

(LONDON, Ontario) – Media are invited to attend the official ‘launch’ of Cornerstone Counselling, a pilot project of London Health Sciences Centre, delivered at Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) in partnership with Canadian Mental Health Association- Middlesex, Addiction Services of Thames Valley and mindyourmind. Cornerstone Counselling provides services to youth between the ages of 16-25 in need of mental health and/or addictions support. It is comprised of a team of health professionals including a peer support worker, social worker, addiction counsellor and psychiatrist, working together across disciplines to help youth who are at risk of falling through gaps in the mental health care system.

 

Interviews will be available with Dr. Javeed Sukhera, physician lead, LHSC Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Steve Cordes, Executive Director, YOU; Julie Trpkovski, VP, Mental Health Care, LHSC; John MacFarlane, President and CEO, London Health Sciences Foundation as well as a member of LHSC’s Youth Mental Health Advisory Council.
