Thoracic surgeons provide specialized clinical care for patients with a wide range of serious diseases of the thorax (the chest). These include conditions of the lungs, mediastinum (middle of the chest), chest wall, esophagus, diaphragm, and stomach.
Our patient referrals come from all areas of Southwestern Ontario in addition to other provinces within Canada.
Since our patients suffer from numerous diseases, our surgical training has been very intense and extensive.
We are also educators to students and residents. We are associated with the Schulich School of Medicine at The University of Western Ontario. The Division of Thoracic Surgery is actively involved in a fellowship training program mentoring future thoracic surgeons. Our success in postgraduate surgical education is well known across the country.
We participate in numerous clinical research projects offering new treatment options to our patient population. These range from intra-hospital (local), to provincial, national, and global trials investigating new surgical procedures, new surgical techniques, new devices and new medications.
Our multidisciplinary team provides the best possible patient care coordinating services with Anesthesia, Clinical Nutrition, Medical Oncology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Radiation Oncology, Radiology and Respirology.
