Respiratory Therapists in CCTC
Most patients in CCTC require some support for their breathing. This includes oxygen therapy, non-invasive breathing support (sometimes called NIV or BiPAP) and invasive mechanical ventilation. Respiratory Therapists assess patients and treat breathing disorders. They are responsible for the setup, adjustment and management of the mechanical ventilators. They participate in care planning rounds and collaborate with physicians, nurses and other health professionals to optimize the care of critically ill patients.
Respiratory Therapists in CCTC work 12 hour shifts and provide 24 hour per day coverage. Each RRT is responsible for monitoring ventilation issues for a set of assigned patients. The RRTs work closely with the nurse at the bedside to ensure ventilation needs are met.
