Paediatric Critical Care Unit

Our Program

Children’s Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) is a new state-of-the-art, 12-bed unit that provides care for approximately 760 children a year. Built in 2001, PCCU provides family-centred care in a controlled entry unit with a 24-hour visiting policy. As well, there is some overnight accommodation for parents.

The unit also operates a Paediatric Critical Care Response Team that includes an experienced PCCU nurse, a paediatric trained Registered Respiratory Therapist and a paediatric critical care doctor. This area is also known for its exemplary research activities under the leadership of Dr. Doug Fraser.

In addition to serving the specialized paediatric needs of Southwestern Ontario, Children’s Hospital also supports other regions in the province, including Northwestern Ontario, through its transport system.

PCCU, along with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, operates a 24/7 paediatric and neonatal transport team .The team transports critically ill infants and children from community hospitals to London Hospitals.
