How to become a Registered Dietitian:

  1. Graduate from an accredited university program in foods and nutrition.
  2. Graduate from an accredited Dietetic Internship Program (for more details, refer to the following website: Dietitians of Canada). Some examples include:
    • Dietetic Internships
    • Integrated undergraduate programs, or
    • An appropriate graduate coordinated program
    • Successful completion of the Ontario Certification Examination for College of Dietitians of Ontario.

Advanced degrees (i.e. M.Sc. and/or Ph.D.) and certification in Diabetes Education and Nutrition Support may be required for Registered Dietitians depending on the area of work.

LHSC Dietetic Internship Program:

London Health Sciences Centre offers a comprehensive graduate Dietetic Internship Program which provides students with practical experience encompassing many areas in nutrition, including clinical nutrition, administrative nutrition, community nutrition, and research.

How to become a Dietetic Assistant:

The education requirements of a Dietetic Assistant is completion of a two-year Community College Food Service Management Diploma or undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences and six months to one year of relevant experience.
