Q: Who will provide laboratory testing services for Parkwood Hospital after July 1, 2005?
A: London Laboratory Services Group (LLSG) will provide laboratory testing after July 1, 2005 for Parkwood Hospital patients.
Q: Who will perform ECGs?
A: During routine hours, the phlebotomists from Gamma-Dynacare will setup ECGs as in the past.
Q: Who will perform Holter Monitor Testing?
A: The phlebotomists from Gamma-Dynacare will set up Holter Monitor Testing. The results will be read and interpreted by the Non-Invasive Cardiology Laboratory at SJHC.
Q: Why is this change being made?
A: Laboratory test results produced by LLSG automatically go into PowerChart. This will support the goal of the Electronic Patient Record Project.
Q: Who will provide phlebotomy services?
A: LLSG has contracted with Gamma-Dynacare to provide Phlebotomists to collect blood specimens.
Q: How will orders for laboratory tests be placed?
A: Laboratory tests should be ordered through PowerChart.
Q: What are the hours of services provided by the Phlebotomists?
A: Monday to Friday from 0700 – 1200 hrs. Outside of these hours, nursing staff or physicians should collect specimens.
Q: Where can I get phlebotomy supplies?
A: A basket of phlebotomy supplies is available in the laboratory area (Room B119).
Q: How will I transport samples to the lab?
A: Monday to Friday (excluding STAT holidays) at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm, samples will be picked up at Parkwood hospital by CMS Courier and delivered to the Core Laboratory, Room D1-218 at Victoria Hospital.
Saturdays there will be a pick up of routine samples from the fridge in room B119 at 1200 noon. Jamieson Courier will provide this service. Samples arriving before 1130 on Saturdays must be placed inside the blue transport bag in the refrigerator for the courier to pick them up. Outside of these hours, Aboutown Cabs will transport samples. Taxi Vouchers are available in the basket of phlebotomy supplies. The Aboutown phone # is 432-2222. Samples need to be taken to the security desk where the cab will pick them up.
Q: What happens when the Cerner system goes down?
A: Cerner downtime can be scheduled or unscheduled. In the event that Cerner goes down and orders cannot be processed through Powerchart; then a London Laboratory Services Group requisition must be filled in if STAT bloodwork is required. It is important that only STAT orders be processed. When the computer is back up, regular orders can be processed.
