Culture is an organization’s personality – how we think, how we feel, and how we behave. It presents in how we treat our patients and visitors and how we treat each other. It is shown in how we plan and carry out our work and how we achieve results. It is demonstrated in how well we work together as an organization and how we feel about what we do. Our culture is who we are and should be reflected in everything we do.
At LHSC, we have embarked on a multi-year journey to achieve a culture of engagement, empowerment and accountability that complements and helps achieve our objectives of clinical and service excellence, and patient- and family-centred care. As we reinvent LHSC’s clinical services, we want to employ a systematic approach to change management that engages front-line staff, physicians, patients and families and key partners in defining and implementing the most effective solutions.
Culture has as impact on everything we do and in turn is influenced by everything we do. In a positive culture we aspire to achieve, people show integrity, live up to expectations, support each other, and believe in and act on their values. With this foundation, patients will have a better experience, employees and physicians will enjoy a better work environment, and LHSC will be a higher-performing organization.
