The Children’s Hospital at LHSC serves as a regional referral centre for paediatric trauma and provides specialized services to children from birth to age 17 years across Southwestern Ontario. The southwest region includes the 10 counties of Grey, Bruce, Huron, Perth, Oxford, Elgin, Middlesex, Lambton, Chatham-Kent and Essex. The region has a population of 1.5 million, including approximately 350,000 children 17 years of age and younger. The region encompasses an area of 28,972 sq. km and includes centres such as London, Windsor, Chatham, Sarnia, Stratford, and Owen Sound.
In addition to serving the specialized paediatric needs of Southwestern Ontario, the Children's Trauma Program also supports other regions in the province, including northwestern Ontario through its transport system.
