Participation in continuing education opportunities is highly valued by our speech-language pathologists. The clinicians attend locally hosted programs in addition to international conferences in aphasia, dysphagia, motor speech disorders and head and neck cancer. In order to develop their skill sets, novice staff are supported to participate in workshops addressing specialized topics such as, tracheosophageal prosthesis insertion, swallowing and communication management of patients with tracheotomies, the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment program and advanced courses in dysphagia assessment and treatment.
Funding is available through various sources, including application to the Allied Health Professional Development Fund and the Diane Y. Stewart Endowed Scholarship Fund. The Harvey F. Sullivan Scholarship has been established to assist successful applicants or their families with post-secondary education courses.
