What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a health care profession which provides services to people whose ability to function in everyday living is disrupted by physical illness or injury, developmental problems, the aging process, mental illness or emotional problems. The goal of occupational therapy is to assist the individual in achieving the ability to participate in activities that are meaningful to them. Occupational therapists assist a client to: learn new ways of doing things, adapt materials or equipment they use, make changes to their environments and/or regain movement and strength in order to enhance their function and independence.
