Celebrating Team LHSC
At London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), creating space to recognize one another is an important part of who we are. The Great Moments program continues to shine a light on the dedication, compassion, and innovation demonstrated by our staff, physicians, learners, volunteers, and patient partners.
Since being introduced in November 2024, the program remains a meaningful and sustainable way to celebrate the moments that define exceptional care. Through the continued support of London Health Sciences Foundation and Children’s Health Foundation, Great Moments reinforces a culture where gratitude and acknowledgement are part of everyday practice.
To date, 2,214 Great Moments have been submitted, resulting in over 3,000 members of Team LHSC receiving a letter of recognition and a small token of gratitude. Of those 3,000 individuals, over 800 recognized were nurses, 463 were physicians, and hundreds were support staff across LHSC’s hospitals and clinics.
The Great Moments program continues to be a valuable way for patients, loved ones and colleagues to recognize the work of Team LHSC. I am always proud to hear the moments that our team inspires and to have the opportunity to thank many of our Great Moments recipients in person. This program is one of the ways we are building a culture of appreciation and reminding Team LHSC that what they do matters. The stories shared through Great Moments continue to demonstrate that every interaction matters and that every member of Team LHSC can have a lasting and positive impact on a patient’s journey.

The impact of Great Moments is best reflected in the words of those who give recognition. Shared across the organization, these messages offer a glimpse into the everyday acts of care, collaboration, and dedication that define exceptional experiences at LHSC.
I would like to formally recognize Dr. Kelton for the exceptional care she provided to my partner and I during our recent visit to the Emergency Department while we were experiencing our first miscarriage. From the moment she entered the room, her gentleness, empathy, and calm presence were evident. She took the time to explain what was happening clearly and honestly while remaining incredibly compassionate and supportive during what was an emotionally overwhelming experience for us as a young couple. As someone who also works in the hospital, I was especially appreciative of the way she spoke to me not only as a patient, but also as a colleague. She struck a perfect balance between professionalism and humanity, ensuring we felt informed, respected, and genuinely cared for. Her approach made a profound difference and helped make an otherwise devastating experience the best it could possibly be under the circumstancesu0026#046;u0026#046;u0026#046; Dr. Kelton’s care will stay with us, and it truly exemplifies the spirit of a “Great Moment” in health care.

In 2026, our son was born at 29 weeks and spent 82 days in the NICU, most of which was spent at LHSC. Linda in particular developed a special bond with our son. She cared for him on a few particularly challenging evenings, and her demeanour put us at ease instantly. I could call the unit at all hours of the night and she would gladly reassure me and fill me in on what our little guy was up to. She went above and beyond what was required of her to give our son extra love and care and eventually, we began calling her his “NICU nana”! Linda was a shining bright light for us during a very difficult time. Linda will always be such a special part of our story and our son’s journey, and we will never, ever forget her support, kindness, and sparkle. She is a gift to all babies who cross her path!
A grateful parent
We had the privilege of meeting Olivia approximately three years ago when our father became a patient at the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre. Since that time, Olivia has consistently provided exceptional care, demonstrating kindness, professionalismu0026#046;u0026#046;u0026#046; We are deeply grateful that Olivia chose this career and that our family had the opportunity to work with such a compassionate and dedicated professional.
A grateful family
Every morning, [Aida] arrives at our Nurse Practitioner office with a smile, diligently collecting waste and sanitizing our workstations. Throughout the day, I see her moving through the [Verspeeten Family] Cancer Centre, consistently ensuring that our environment remains clean, safe, and welcoming. Aida’s role may often go unnoticed, but the impact of her work is deeply felt. Aida truly exemplifies how quiet dedication can have a powerful impact on patient care.

As a high-school student who has just completed one month of summer co-op, I would like to recognize Jeremy and Sabrina for taking me under their wing and showing me the ways of the dialysis program at Victoria Hospitalu0026#046;u0026#046;u0026#046; They have pushed me to take advantage of every little opportunity and have shown me what being a leader really looks like. Every morning when they come in, they brighten the room with their smiles and amazing personalitiesu0026#046;u0026#046;u0026#046; I have only had the chance to work with both of them for less than a month, but I can assure you I have never met two people so passionate about what they do for a living.
A grateful colleague
Recently, I had a personal experience that perfectly captures who my colleague, Laura, is. I participated in my first-ever 10km competitive run. I didn’t know anyone else running, and as the start time approach, I felt a wave of nerves and self-doubtu0026#046;u0026#046;u0026#046; Then I looked up and saw a familiar smiling face in the crowd. It was Laura! In that moment, her warmth and positivity immediately calmed me. Laura offered encouraging wordsu0026#046;u0026#046;u0026#046; and reminded me that I could do this. We often talk about our Team LHSC work family, and Laura embodies that spirit in every way, not just within the walls of LHSC, but beyond them too.
