Celebrating National Medical Laboratory Week

Med Labs Week 2022

April 11, 2022

Each April, National Medical Laboratory Week is celebrated across Canada to promote awareness and understanding of the role of medical laboratory professionals in the health-care system. This week, we are pleased to recognize and thank the more than 560 medical laboratory professionals, scientists, and medical staff who work as members of our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PaLM) teams.

Why medical laboratories are essential:

Medical laboratories provide accurate and timely laboratory test results to health-care providers to support critical medical decisions for the care of patients. At LHSC, our team of medical laboratory professionals perform roughly 8.5 million tests per year across a comprehensive range of routine and specialized testing, providing clinical consultation to patients within southwestern Ontario and beyond. From complete blood count testing, to processing COVID-19 swabs, to multi-gene panel testing for a range of diseases and disorders such as Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease, epilepsy, and mitochondrial disorders, the work of our medical lab professionals provides critical insight into important health information. Clients from across Canada and internationally refer testing to our expert facilities.

In addition to quality driven patient care, our laboratory teams are focused on offering educational training and continuing education for a broad range of health-care professions, and collaboration with numerous research partners in London demonstrates an ongoing commitment to assisting in the advance of health-care innovation for the future.
