London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has launched two new digital Patient Guides to make it easier and faster for patients, families, and visitors to find the information they need for their hospital visit.

The updated guides were developed in response to feedback from the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) community survey, in which patients told us they want information to be easier to find, always up to date, and available in formats that work for everyone. Launching these new guides completes one of the CAC’s recommended actions to improve operations, communication, and the overall care experience at LHSC.

“The launch of these new patient guides is a great example of how we work in partnership with patients and families to improve communication,” says Tania Testa, Vice President of Communications and Community, Patient & Client Engagement at LHSC. “In moving these resources online, we can make sure they’re always up to date, more accessible, and shaped by the people who use them most.”

Developed in close collaboration with patient and family partners, the new guides:

  • Make information easier to find through search engines and LHSC’s site search;
  • Provide improved accessibility with better compatibility for assistive technology;
  • Contribute to a healthier planet by reducing the number of printed patient materials; and
  • Ensure patients and families always have the most current information.

To support patients who prefer or require printed information, clinical teams will also have access to a printable PDF, which can be printed by section or individual page.

“One of the biggest advantages of going digital is that we can now respond more quickly to patient feedback,” says Karen Connors, Director of Patient Experience and Volunteer Services. “This is a living resource that we can update based on what’s most important to patients, families, and visitors.”

The new guides can be accessed on the LHSC website. Patients and visitors are encouraged to share feedback using the online feedback form to help further improve these resources.
