In 2024/2025, teams across London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) worked in partnership to support the wishes of 35 organ donors, which led to 98 organs donated for transplant and 83 lives saved. Additionally, there were 108 tissue donors, enhancing the lives of many.

In recognition of this work, LHSC has been awarded the Hospital Achievement Award – Provincial Conversion Rate by Ontario Health Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN). The award is given to hospitals that surpass the province-wide target in the complex undertaking of converting potential organ donors into actual donors.

Over the 2024/2025 year, 76 per cent of potential donors at LHSC became actual donors, well surpassing the provincial target of 63 per cent. This reflects how well Ontario Health TGLN and LHSC work together to ensure that the wishes of potential donors are realized, honouring their selflessness and the legacy they intend to leave behind.

“This is the eighth time LHSC has received this award, and it remains deeply meaningful for the many Team LHSC members who come together to make donation possible,” says Elaine Pardy, Director, Critical Care Services at LHSC. “From those working in critical care, to labs, to diagnostics and other departments, receipt of this award affirms their unwavering commitment to ensuring a donor’s decision to give the gift of life is fulfilled.”

Having supported more than 10 per cent of Ontario’s 339 organ donors in 2024/2025, LHSC is pleased to be playing an important role in making this generous gift of life possible.

One organ can mean the difference between life and death for someone on the waitlist, and donated tissue can help people overcome physical limitations, improve their quality of life, regain independence, and can be life saving for burn survivors. Through the gift of donation, organ and tissue transplantation has transformed lives across Ontario. Yet today, thousands are still waiting for a life-saving transplant.
