London, ON – Ron Sapsford has been appointed as Chair of London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) renewed Board of Directors effective October 1, 2026 and will conclude his term as Chair of the Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) Board of Directors on September 30, 2026.
Mr. Sapsford has served on the MHA Board for the past two years, including one year as Board Chair, providing strong leadership and strategic guidance during a period of continued growth and transformation.
The new appointment follows LHSC's announcement that it is recruiting members for its renewed Board of Directors after two years of work to strengthen the organization's governance, leadership, operations, policies, and procedures under the leadership of provincial Supervisor, David Musyj.
"Over the past two years, we have built the governance structures, accountability processes, and oversight mechanisms needed to support a high-performing Board," said David Musyj, Supervisor of London Health Sciences Centre. "We now require an experienced and respected leader to help guide our renewed Board and ensure strong governance well into the future. Ron Sapsford has dedicated his career to improving Ontario's health-care system, and his experience and leadership make him exceptionally well suited for this role."
Mr. Sapsford brings more than 50 years of leadership experience across health care, health education, and health research, aligning closely with LHSC's role as one of Canada's largest research-intensive academic health sciences centres.
His distinguished career has included serving as:
- Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Medical Association;
- Interim Chief Executive Officer of the South West Local Health Integration Network;
- Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Hamilton Health Sciences;
- Chief Operating Officer of the Ontario Hospital Association; and
- Numerous senior leadership roles with Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, including Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care from 2005 to 2010.
In addition to his executive leadership experience and role as Chair of the MHA Board, Mr. Sapsford has served on numerous other boards and committees, including:
- Canadian Institute for Health Information;
- Canada Health Infoway;
- The Change Foundation;
- Michael Garron Hospital;
- Associated Medical Services;
- National Advisory Board of The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory;
- Schlegel Health Care Inc.;
- Grand Bend and Area Community Health Centre; and
- Scientific Research Committee at Western University.
Mr. Sapsford holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Ottawa. He is also a Senior Fellow and Adjunct Professor in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
