Patients and visitors coming to London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital will begin to see changes along Wellington Road as the City of London continues work on the Wellington Gateway rapid transit project.
The construction will widen sections of Wellington Road between Wilkins Street and Watson Street to introduce dedicated bus transit lanes, helping to create faster more reliable travel within the city. While these improvements are aimed at strengthening connections across London and improving access to key areas, including LHSC’s Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital, construction will bring temporary disruptions in the months ahead.
What’s happening
The project is already underway, with preliminary work taking place between Wellington Road and Baseline Road East. Construction is scheduled to take place starting in April 2026 and continuing through late 2027.
During this time, patients and visitors coming to Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital can expect to see lane restrictions and reduced traffic flow along key sections of Wellington Road. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time to accommodate the possibility of traffic delays. For those able, consider using a navigation app like Waze or Google Maps to estimate your travel time and plan the most efficient route.

Despite these short-term challenges, the project will bring important long-term improvements. We are also exploring the possibility of adding a new entrance and exit along Wellington Road to improve traffic flow to and from the hospital campus.
