Current update: April 2026
Pre-construction activity is beginning.
Visitors to LHSC’s Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital will start to see lane restrictions start along Wellington Road as traffic calming measures are put in place. These restrictions will occur in the northbound lanes between Wilkins Street to Baseline Road East

About the project
The Wellington Gateway is one of three ongoing rapid transit construction projects in London, designed to make it faster, easier, and more reliable to get around the city. The project will widen parts of Wellington Road to add dedicated bus transit lanes.
This construction will help improve long-term traffic flow along Wellington Road but will create short-term disruptions for patients and visitors to LHSC’s Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital. We are also exploring the possibility of adding a new entrance and exit along Wellington Road to improve traffic flow to and from the hospital campus.
Impact on LHSC patients and visitors
While the construction will help improve long-term traffic flow along Wellington Road, access to LHSC’s Victoria Hospital and Children’s Hospital will be impacted by phase two of the project, beginning Spring 2026 and continuing through late 2027.
Traffic delays and changes to road access are expected throughout the project. Patients, staff, volunteers, and visitors should plan ahead and allow extra time before traveling to the hospital. For those able, consider using a navigation app like Waze or Google Maps to estimate your travel time and plan the most efficient route.
LHSC is working closely with the City of London to ensure timely updates and to provide clear information throughout the construction process. For the most up-to-date information and resources, please visit the City of London’s Get Involved website.
