Observerships (Job Shadowing) Information

What is an Observership?

An observation experience (job shadowing) is an opportunity for a learner or individual to learn about an area of health care by spending time with a hospital employee who is currently working in that role. This will appeal to individuals who are considering a career in health care and would benefit from seeing what the job would actually involve.

For an overview of observership opportunities at LHSC, please visit the Programs and Services web page

For patient safety and legal reasons, observers are not permitted to conduct any form of direct or indirect care. Observation experiences are typically four hours or less, but can be longer if approved by the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) Placement Supervisor and LHSC.

How to request an Observership:

To request an observership for a specific hospital role, please e-mail the attached Job Shadow Request Form to Learner Affairs via email at Student_Affairs@lhsc.on.ca.

For medical, dental, and midwifery observations please visit the Medical Affairs website for more information.
