Worker journey at LHSC

Once the appropriate claims forms have been submitted to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), and a patient has been referred to LHSC, the following care pathway outlines the typical worker journey that takes place at LHSC’s Ontario Workers Network (OWN) Clinic.

Initial assessment

A surgeon/physician and functional recovery coordinator (physiotherapist/occupational therapist) will assess the patient to determine diagnosis, prognosis, and worker ability. Appropriate services are recommended from our specialty offerings.

Treatment and follow-up assessments

If treatment is recommended at LHSC, assessment and treatment teams collaborate closely. The patient returns for follow-up assessments to review progress and receive updated recommendations – including work hours and duties.

Discharge

Once the patient has returned to full function or reached maximum recovery, they are discharged from treatment and the specialty program. Community supports are introduced to assist with long-term success.
