How to prepare for your appointment

Before your appointment, please: 

  • Bring a list of current medications,
  • Be prepared to give a blood sample. 
     

What to expect at your appointment

During your appointment you will: 

  • See different members of our Personalized Medicine Team, which may include Dr. Kim, nursing staff, a clinical pharmacist and/or our research coordinators,
  • Be asked about your medical history and all medications you are taking,
  • Receive information about the genotyping or drug level testing you will be receiving,
  • Provide a blood sample for genotype testing,
  • And you may be asked to participate in one of our research studies, which will be reviewed with you.

Appointments take around 30 minutes to one hour (length varies depending on the patient).  
 

What happens after your appointment

After your appointment:

  • Sample DNA is extracted from your blood sample and will be used to determine genetic changes in genes important to drug metabolism (genotyping),
  • Genotyping results will be forwarded to your referring physician.
